Regional exchange of best practice and challenges on
the promotion and use of the Minnesota Protocol for
the investigation of potentially unlawful death
From March 28 to 30, 2022, a lawyer from the
Secretariat of the Inter-American Court participated in
the Regional Exchange of Best Practice and Challenges on
the Promotion and use of the Minnesota Protocol for the
investigation of Potentially Unlawful Death. The event
was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina and was organized by
the International Center for Political Studies of the
National University of San Martín (CIEP-UNSAM), which is
directed by the Judge of the Inter-American Court,
Verónica Gómez, the Inter-American Court, the Office of
the Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial, Summary or
Arbitrary Executions, the Regional Office of the United
Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the
Argentine Public Defender’s Office. The exchange was
organized within the framework of the 40th anniversary
of the United Nations Special Rapporteurship on
Extrajudicial, Summary or Arbitrary Executions and
brought together specialists in forensic sciences at the
global and regional levels, representatives of forensic
medical services and public defenders of the region in
order to discuss best practice and challenges in the
application of the Minnesota Protocol.
