Chile on February 28, holding the State of Chile internationally responsible for violating the right to freedom of thought and speech, the right to freedom from ex post facto laws, and the right to judicial protection for Carlos Baraona Bray., who had been a public official, was tried and convicted for the crime of serious verbal abuse due to statements concerning the actions of a senator involving the illegal felling of a larch tree, or alerce. |

Taking part in the event were the President of the Inter-American Court, Ricardo C. Perez Manrique, and the First Vice President of Costa Rica, Stephan Brunner Neibig.
The keynote lectures were given by Minister Maria Thereza Rocha de Assis Moura, President of the Superior Court of Brazil, and Sergio Garcia Ramirez, former President and judge on the Inter-American Court. |

Visit to the Court by the President of Costa Rica |

The President of the Inter-American Court, Ricardo C. Perez Manrique, received a visit to the seat of the Court by the President of Costa Rica, Rodrigo Chaves, and Arnoldo Andre Tinoco, Minister of Foreign Relations and Worship.
Also present on Behalf of the Court were Registrar Pablo Saavedra Alessandri and Assistant Registrar Romina Sijniensky.
During the official visit, the Court President highlighted the long-standing ties of cooperation with the Government of Costa Rica, as the Court’s host country.
Perez Manrique described the work of the Inter-American Court to the head of state and explained how the Court works. The President of Costa Rica recalled the long traditions of close relations between his country and the Court, noting that “the State will continue to strengthen cooperation with the Inter-American Court.” |

During the 155th Regular Session of the Inter-American Court, Judge Patricia Perez received a visit from students of the Harvard Undergraduate Foreign Policy Initiative, who shared a report from the research project "Upholding the Rights to Life and Liberty of People with Disabilities in Detention and Hospital Facilities". Judge Humberto Antonio Sierra Porto and Judge Rodrigo Mudrovitsch also took part in the activity. |

During the 155th Regular Session, the Prosecutor General of Ecuador, Juan Carlos Larrea, met with Court President Ricardo C. Perez Manrique, Vice President Eduardo Ferrer Mac-Gregor and Court Registrar Pablo Saavedra Alessandri. Also present from the State of Ecuador were the National Director of Human Rights, Maria Fernanda Alvarez Alcivar, and Ecuador’s ambassador to Costa Rica, Bolivar Vicente Torres Cevallos.

The President of the Court commended the association for its work in disseminating human rights information and training in Mexico.
He was joined in the activity by Vice President Eduardo Ferrer Mac-Gregor, Judge Humberto Antonio Sierra Porto and Registrar Pablo Saavedra Alessandri.

Cooperation agreement signed between the Inter-American Court and the Institute for Reform of Relations between Private Enterprise and the State of Brazil |

The 155th Regular Session provided the opportunity for the Court to sign a cooperation agreement with the Institute for the Reform of Relations between Private Enterprise and the State of Brazil. The President of the Inter-American Court was joined for the occasion by Judge Rodrigo Mudrovitsch, Registrar Pablo Saavedra Alessandri and Court attorney Rita Lamy.

Court President takes part in Opening Ceremony of the Universidad Nacional de San Luis |

The President of the Inter-American Court, Judge Ricardo C. Perez Manrique, took part in the Opening Ceremony of the Second Class of Students Specializing in Human Rights and Access to Justice at the Universidad Nacional de San Luis, Argentina, where he gave a virtual lecture on “Access to justice in light of international human rights law”.
He highlighted several outstanding challenges for access to justice and underscored the importance of the 2030 sustainable development goals.
