Inter-American Court closes the Second Edition of the Course on “Public Defense with Equity: Gender and intersectionality Perspectives for effective action. A virtual learning and practice experience”

San José, Costa Rica, June 22, 2023. Today, the Deputy Registrar of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, Romina I. Sijniensky, and the Secretary General for Training and Jurisprudence of the Public Defense Service of the Argentine Republic, Julieta Di Corleto, closed, virtually, the Second Edition of the Course on “Public Defense with Equity: gender and intersectionality Perspectives for effective action. A virtual learning and practice experience.”

This 6-week training activity was held virtually from May 2 to June 11, 2023, with the support of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the FLACSO project Education and New Technologies and was addressed for public defenders or officials from the public defense services of Latin America. The course consisted of weekly online activities using role-playing techniques, either on an individual basis or in interaction with Public Pefenders, on local and international laws relating to recognition of the human rights of women and diversities.

As highlighted by the Deputy Registrar of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, the course allowed participants to reflect on different issues related to the exercise of public defense, a key component in the protection of human rights in the region, especially the rights of vulnerable groups. She also emphasized the importance of the activity as a great opportunity to work on the gender and diversities perspective in the public defense system at the regional level.

This activity was organized by the Inter-American Court’s Training Center and is the result of a joint effort with the four institutions mentioned above.
