San José, Costa Rica, July 7, 2021.- On Tuesday, July 6, 2021, the course entitled: “Access to the Inter-American Human Rights System and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights,” organized by the Inter-American Court, on behalf of the Council of Bar Associations of Mercosur (COADEM), an institution comprising national lawyer associations of the countries that form MERCOSUR, the Argentine Federation of Bar Associations (FACA); the Order of Lawyers of Brazil (OAB); the Bar Association of Paraguay (CAP), and the Bar Association of Uruguay (CAU), concluded. The Inter-American Court Judge Ricardo Pérez Manrique participated in the closing ceremony.
The course took place for over five weeks and included the participation of 300 lawyers from Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, and Paraguay. These legal professionals, who are affiliated with the institutions that comprise COADEM, were able to learn and enhance their knowledge on contentious procedures before the IACHR, and the Inter-American Court and regional standards, under the guidance of professionals with significant experience litigating before the bodies of the Inter-American Human Rights System. Among other matters, the training program addressed fundamental aspects of the IAHRS and its bodies, the Petitions and Cases System, Provisional Measures, and Monitoring Compliance with Judgments.
The Tribunal is thankful with COADEM for the trust it placed in the Inter-American Court during this training process, and underscores the importance of providing these spaces for training on the operations of the Inter-American System, so lawyers can work within it.
