Extension of deadline to submit observations
to the request for an Advisory Opinion submitted by the Republic of Chile and the Republic of Colombia

On January 9th, 2023, the Republic of Chile and the Republic of Colombia submitted to the Secretariat of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights a request for an advisory opinion regarding “Climate Emergency and Human Rights” under Article 64(1) of the American Convention on Human Rights. In accordance with Article 73(3) of the Rules of Procedure of the Inter-American Court, all interested parties are invited to present their written opinion on the issues covered by the request that they consider relevant according to their area of expertise or their field of work or interest. The written opinion must indicate the name of the institution or the persons signing it, and information that allows the sender to be identified. In any case, whether they are presented by one person or a group of persons, each person must provide a copy of their identity document. If the written opinion is presented by an organization, it must be signed by, at least, its legal representative, and pertinent documents must be provided to authenticate this representation and the legal existence of the organization. The written opinion must also include the physical address, e-mail address, telephone and fax numbers where all communications and notifications sent by the Court will be officially received.

The President, after consulting the Plenary of the Court, has decided to extend until October 18, 2023 the deadline established for the submission of written observations regarding the aforementioned request.

The request for an advisory opinion was submitted in Spanish. The English, Portuguese and French versions were done by the Secretariat of the Court and do not constitute official translations. In case of doubt, interested parties should refer to the Spanish version.
