The Inter-American Court of Human Rights presents the THEMIS DIGEST, a compilation of judicial rulings that implement the normative criteria of a particular article of the American Convention on Human Rights by means of interpretation through legal concepts. You may access the Themis Digest here.
The Themis Digest has been developed with the support of the German International Cooperation Agency, GIZ.
As a tool, the Digest facilitates access to the Case Law of the Inter-American Court from a normative perspective. The rulings are ordered under the legal concepts developed in the Inter-American Court’s Case Law, ranging from the most abstract to the most concrete. The Digest is a freely accessible public tool.
The Themis Digest includes Case Law related to articles 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 15, 16, 19, 21, 24, 25, 26, 29. Essentially, it relates to the relevant articles on access to justice and economic, social, cultural, and environmental rights, as well as the rights of children, equality and on rules of interpretation.
The platform offers a means to learn about the Inter-American Court’s Case Law and the standards it develops (lines of Case Law), and enables an appreciation of the development of legal standards and concepts over time. Use of the Themis Digest facilitates the application of conventionality control at the national level by all judicial officers, since it contains the Inter-American Court rulings that interpret the American Convention on Human Rights.
